Your books shouldn’t need a translator
Bokeping keeps a real ledger underneath and plain English on top — so you always know where your money stands, and what to do about it.
Our story
Built by people who’ve closed their own books
Bookkeeping tools tend to fail small businesses in one of two ways. Some dumb everything down until the numbers stop meaning anything — pretty charts on top of books your accountant can’t use. Others drown you in jargon, as if running a bakery came with a minor in accounting.
We didn’t think you should have to choose. Bokeping keeps a real double-entry ledger underneath — the kind accountants trust, where every number traces to a balanced entry — and puts plain English on top. You see “who owes you” and “what’s due soon.” Your accountant sees clean, professional books. Same numbers, no translator.
We built it this way because we’ve been on both sides: running small businesses, sweating cash flow, and closing the books at year-end. The tool we wanted didn’t exist, so we made it.
What we believe
Three jobs, in order
Watch your money
The books should keep an eye on things so you don’t have to. Bank activity flows in, gets sorted, and stays reconciled — quietly, in the background.
Say what it means
Not “accounts receivable aging” — “who owes you, and how late.” Every screen says the plain-English thing first. The formal terms live in the reports, where they belong.
Tell you what’s next
A number without a next step is trivia. Bokeping points at what needs doing — the invoice to chase, the bill coming due, the month ready to close.

Bookkeeping
that moves
with your business
Made for the people who run the business. The books keep pace on your busiest days — clear, current, and ready when you are.

How we build
Plain English on top. Rigor underneath.
A real double-entry ledger
Underneath the plain English sits the same double-entry bookkeeping accountants have trusted for centuries. Every transaction posts as a balanced entry.
Every number traces back
Drill from a Balance Sheet, P&L or Trial Balance line into the general ledger, then from any ledger line to its source document. Full audit trail, no black boxes, nothing you have to take on faith.
Your accountant sees clean books
Accountant access is free on every plan. When tax season comes, your accountant opens books that already tie out — no shoebox, no cleanup bill.
Your data is yours
Encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold, never used for ads. Export everything whenever you like. Leaving should be as easy as joining.
The manifesto
Principles we won’t trade
Five commitments, written down so you can hold us to them.
- 01
Every number traces to a balanced entry
There is no figure in Bokeping that exists only for display. Balance Sheet, P&L and Trial Balance lines open into the general ledger, and any ledger or journal line opens the document behind it — postings that add up, or we consider it broken.
- 02
Plain English is engineering, not marketing
Saying “who owes you” instead of “accounts receivable aging” takes real design work, because the simple words still have to mean exactly what the ledger means. We do that work on every screen.
- 03
We say no to features that blur the books
No CRM, no project management, no bolted-on payroll. A feature earns its place by making the books truer or the next step clearer — otherwise we integrate, or we pass.
- 04
Your data leaves with you, any day
Export your complete books whenever you like, in formats another tool can read. We want you to stay because the product is good, not because leaving is hard.
- 05
Correctness beats novelty
A clever feature that posts a wrong number is worse than no feature at all. When speed and correctness compete for our time, correctness wins — every release, without exception.
Where we are
Young company. Weekly releases. Books first.
We’re a young company, and we’d rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. What we ship today — invoicing, bills, banking, inventory, real financial statements — is solid, used daily, and improving every week. What we haven’t built yet, we say plainly on the roadmap instead of hiding behind a demo.
The roadmap stays books-first: deeper banking, sharper reports, and the connections your books depend on — before anything that merely looks good in a screenshot.
