Read it through, then do it

Short, real-product walkthroughs — no slides, no fluff. Every topic is written out in full today, and the videos are landing month by month.

New videos land every month

We’re a small team, and we’d rather record a few careful walkthroughs than rush out a wall of stale ones. Every topic above is fully covered in writing today — and thestep-by-step guidesgo even deeper.

Written walkthroughs, step by step

The three tasks people ask about most, written out so you can follow along at your own pace. Each one links to the deeper guide when you want the why behind the what.

Send your first invoice

Blank page to “sent” — about ten minutes the first time, a couple of minutes after that.

  1. 1Hit New invoice and pick a customer — or type a new name and email right there. That’s all a customer needs to exist.
  2. 2Add a line item: description, quantity, price. Pick a tax rate if one applies, and the totals do their own math.
  3. 3Turn on online payments so the invoice carries a pay button. Card payments land through Stripe at their standard rates — we add nothing on top — and mark the invoice paid on their own.
  4. 4Preview it exactly as your customer will see it, then hit Send.
  5. 5Watch the status move from sent to paid. The ledger entry behind it posts itself — nothing for you to file.

Connect your bank and confirm the first batch

A read-only connection, then your first pass through the feed.

  1. 1Open Banking and choose Connect — live feeds come with the Starter plan and up. The connection runs through Plaid and is read-only: nobody can move money with it, including us.
  2. 2Recent transactions arrive in For review within a couple of minutes. Nothing touches your books until you say so.
  3. 3Work down the list: accept the suggested category or pick your own. Save a rule for any vendor you expect to see again.
  4. 4Confirm the batch, then check the account balance against your bank app. They should agree — that agreement is the whole point.
  5. 5On the free plan, or if your bank isn’t supported, upload a CSV or QBO file instead — import is free on every plan, and re-uploading an overlapping file is safe.

Run month-end in 15 minutes

Which screen to open, in the order that keeps the close short.

  1. 1Open Banking and empty the For review tab. Anything you sorted during the month is already gone from it.
  2. 2Switch to Reconcile, choose the account, and type in the closing balance from the statement. Matched means the month is complete; a remainder points at one entry that is missing or counted twice.
  3. 3Filter Invoices to Overdue and send reminders straight from the list. Then sort Bills by due date to see what lands next.
  4. 4Run the Profit and Loss for the month with the previous month beside it, and note the three things that moved: revenue, the biggest expense change, and your cash position.
  5. 5Write down what changed, in one line, wherever you keep notes. A year of those lines explains the business better than any single report.
