Help small businesses know their money
We’re a small, remote-first team building bookkeeping that speaks plain English — and we’re careful about who we add, because every person shapes the product.
Why work here
What we care about, in practice
Plain English is a craft
Turning “accounts receivable aging” into “who owes you, and how late” is real work, and we take it as seriously as the code. Every word in the product earns its place.
Correctness is a feature
People trust us with their books. Balanced entries, audit trails, and numbers that tie out aren’t polish — they’re the product. We’d rather ship late than ship wrong.
Small team, real ownership
No layers between you and the customer. You’ll talk to the business owners using what you build, own problems end to end, and see your work land the same week.
Remote-first
We work across US time zones, write things down, and keep meetings rare. Good work needs quiet hours more than it needs a commute.
Benefits
The basics, done properly
Turning “accounts receivable aging” into “who owes you, and how late” is the craft we hire for.
Day to day
What working here looks like
Remote-first means written-first. Decisions live in documents anyone can read later, not in meetings you had to attend. Everyone posts a short written update each week, there’s one team call to stay human, and the rest of the calendar belongs to you — long quiet stretches are the norm here, not a perk.
We ship in small pieces, every week. Nobody sits on a branch for a month, and nothing goes out without someone checking that the numbers still tie — this is bookkeeping software, and “it looks right” isn’t a test. When we disagree, someone writes the argument down, we decide, and the document becomes the memory. It’s a calm way to work, and it’s deliberate.
How we hire
Four steps, no hazing
The whole process usually takes two to three weeks, and you’ll know where you stand after every step.
Application
Send a short note about work you’re proud of — a resume helps, but the note matters more. We read everything and reply within a week, including when the answer is no.
Conversation
A real conversation with the people you’d actually work with, about problems we’re actually solving. No riddles, no trick questions, no performance art.
Practical exercise
A small exercise shaped like the real job — a code review, a support thread, a screen to critique — scoped to a few hours, and paid. Nobody solves puzzles on a whiteboard while strangers watch.
Offer
We decide quickly and tell you exactly where you stand. A yes comes with clear terms — pay, equity, and what your first month will look like.
