This policy explains what Bokeping collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Bokeping website and application. We’ve written it in plain English on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us and a person will answer.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account information — your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Business data you enter — invoices, bills, contacts, items, and the transactions that make up your books.
- Bank data — transaction and balance information from bank accounts you choose to connect.
- Usage data — device type, browser, and how the product is used, so we can fix problems and improve it.
- Support messages — what you send us when you ask for help.
How we use it
We use your information to run Bokeping: keeping your books accurate, syncing your bank activity, sending the invoices and emails you ask us to send, answering support questions, keeping the service secure, and improving the product. We send service emails about your account and, if you opt in, occasional product updates you can unsubscribe from at any time.
Bank connections
Bank feeds are powered by Plaid, and the connection is read-only. When you connect a bank, you enter your credentials directly with Plaid — your bank username and password never touch Bokeping’s servers. We receive only the transaction and balance data needed to keep your books current, and you can disconnect a bank at any time.
How your financial data is handled
Your financial data is never sold and never used for advertising. We don’t build ad profiles, we don’t share your numbers with data brokers, and we don’t mine your books for anything other than running the features you use. Access by our staff is limited to what’s needed to support you, and it’s logged.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers that make Bokeping work — hosting, email delivery, payment processing, and bank connections — each under contracts that limit what they can do with it. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or as part of a business transfer, in which case this policy continues to apply and we’ll notify you. We never sell your data to anyone.
Retention & export
Your data is yours. You can export your books at any time, in formats you can use elsewhere. We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you cancel, your books stay readable for twelve months — you can sign in, look things up, and export again, you just can’t post anything new. After that window we delete your data, and we’ll delete it sooner if you ask, except where the law requires us to keep records. Deleted data is also purged from backups on a fixed schedule.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use access controls, monitoring, and regular reviews to protect it. No system is perfectly secure, so if you believe you’ve found a vulnerability, emailprivacy@bokeping.comand we’ll respond quickly.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal information at any time — most of it directly in the product, and the rest by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR; we honor those requests regardless of where you are.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date. For material changes, we’ll email you before they take effect.
