Construction estimate questions
Both state a price for defined work. A bid usually responds to a set of plans in a competitive process; an estimate is often prepared with the customer. Either way, list the scope, allowances, exclusions and payment terms.
An allowance is a budget for items the customer will choose later, such as cabinets or tile. If the chosen item costs more, the difference is billed as a change order; if it costs less, the customer is credited.
