What to include on a plumbing estimate

Beyond the basics — your details, the customer, a unique number and the date — these are the lines plumbers get asked about.

  • Expansion tank, venting and gas connector kit1 × $210.00
  • Installation labor (hours)4 × $125.00
  • Haul-away of old water heater1 × $75.00

Fictional example prices.

  1. 1

    Scope in plain words

Describe what you will replace, install or repair, and what you will not touch.

  2. 2

    Assumptions

Say what the price assumes — existing lines in good condition, access through an open wall — and how surprises are handled.

  3. 3

    Permit

Note whether a permit is needed and include the fee, so it is not a surprise on the invoice.

  4. 4

    Disposal

Include haul-away of old fixtures or equipment.

  5. 5

    Validity and payment

Give an expiry date and say when payment is due.
